Twice a year the Foundation writes to people in the community seeking a donation for a specific purpose.
2010 Tax Appeal
The focus of this year's tax appeal is to raise $30,000 in support of Mercy Mental Health.
Operating in one of Melbourne's most linguistically and culturally diverse areas, Mercy Mental Health is seeking donations to translate program materials for its "collaborative therapy program" to assist those clients where English is not their first language.
Collaborative therapy is an educative approach to treating people with a mental illness that empowers them to take control of their own mental health. Clients are educated on what it means to have optimal health, how to identify stress factors that may lead to a relapse and how to cope with everyday life situations by developing important social and behavioural skills. The outcomes of this program have proved positive with clients more engaged in their own treatment which has lead to reduced hospitals admissions and shorter hospital stays.
As this program is not government funded we are seeking support to provide program materials in a range of languages including Arabic, Cantonese, Croatian, Hindu, Italian, Greek, Maltese, Mandarin, Somali and Vietnamese.
A gift from you will help those who are most vulnerable gain access to appropriate language materials that will make a real difference to achieving optimal mental health.
